Juan specialises in all aspects of planning, licensing, regulatory, environmental and local government law.
Juan has broad experience of planning law. He regularly appears in enforcement notice appeals and in public inquiries promoting and opposing residential, retail and infrastructure schemes (recent cases include promoting a residential development in the conservation area and representing a local interest group objecting to a mixed residential and retail scheme on contaminated land). Juan also appears in the High Court in judicial review and statutory challenges on behalf of planning authorities, developers and objectors and is instructed in proceedings before the Lands Tribunal.
Juan has particular experience in outdoor advertising and in prosecution proceedings relating to a broad range of planning matters.
Juan has wide experience in licensing and regulatory law. He advises and represents corporate clients and individual applicants, local authorities, the police and residents in cases concerning liquor, public entertainment, late night refreshment, street trading, heavy goods vehicle licensing, taxi-licensing and firearms.
Juan also acts in betting applications and has advised in the areas of gaming (including internet gaming), lotteries and charities.
Juan regularly advises and appears in civil and criminal proceedings involving local authorities, HSE and the Environment Agency. He is experienced in the areas of trading standards, health and safety, fire and food safety, nuisance (including statutory nuisance and abatement notice appeals), and waste and pollution control.
Juan appears in injunctive proceedings in the High Court and is also familiar with the law of highways, footpaths and public rights of way.
