Pupillage

It is necessary for everyone who wishes to exercise rights of audience as a barrister in independent practice to undertake twelve months' pupillage in chambers.

We offer two twelve month pupillages annually, the twelve month period being divided equally between three different Pupil Supervisors.

Successful applicants will receive an award of £40,000. In addition, we will pay the fees required for attendance at the compulsory ‘Advice to Counsel' and accountancy courses.

The object of pupillage at Francis Taylor Building is to prepare you for practice in Public Law, especially at the Planning, Environmental, Licensing and Local Government Bar.

This involves providing not only a practical knowledge of the relevant law and procedure, but also an opportunity for pupils to hone their advocacy skills and receive guidance on how to administer and develop a practice.
