Commons & Village Greens

Annabel is author of the chapters on ‘Use and Development of Common Land', ‘Registering New Greens' (co-author) and ‘The Welsh Position' for the new edition of the major practitioner text on this area of law: Gadsden's Law of Commons and Greens (Sweet & Maxwell, 2nd edition, 2011).

She has appeared for the applicant in a three-day village green inquiry which concerned nearly every aspect of the statutory definition, has advised local residents in relation to a wind farm proposed on common land, and advised a registration authority on the impact of the recent decision in BTW Trading Ltd. v.  Spooner on their plans to develop an area of their land.

Highways

Annabel has specialist knowledge in the law relating to parking on the highway and vehicle immunization having written the Legal Annexes for two research papers for the RAC Foundation:

The latter in particular received widespread attention in the national press.

She has successfully appeared for a vehicle immobilization company in court, and has also recently given commercially sensitive advice to a multinational company relating to highway and parking regulation.

She is the author of an article on Yetkin v. Newham London Borough Council in the Rights of Way Law Review ([2010], 135-138) concerning the negligent exercise of a highway authority's statutory powers.

Housing 

Annabel undertook a secondment in the Civil Litigation team of a London Borough for over four months in 2010. She was charged advising on major works to leasehold properties including tendering and the consultation process, and had conduct of a wide variety of litigation relating to the Council's housing stock, including claims for negligence / disrepair, LVT matters, and injunctions.

Ecclesiastical

Annabel has appeared in the Consistory Court, acting for the Archdeacon of Southend, in respect of a faculty petition for works to a church to facilitate the expansion of London Southend Airport. She is a communicant member of the Church of England.
