Planning

Chambers' reputation for excellence in the planning sphere is long-standing and we are consistently featured in the legal directories for our expertise and leading role in the field. Members of Chambers continue to appear in high profile and important planning cases.

We undertake work across the spectrum, appearing at planning and enforcement notice appeals, development plan inquiries, examinations in public and in courts of law when challenges are made to administrative decisions. We also boast considerable expertise in judicial review proceedings in the Administrative Court, and frequently act in criminal and civil enforcement proceedings at all levels. Members of Chambers have appeared in many leading court cases, including the Alconbury case (relating to the planning system and the European Convention on Human Rights) and the Berkeley and Barker cases (relating to the role of Environmental Impact Assessment in planning).

We are instructed by both the private and the public sectors. Whilst our private clients include many of the country's largest commercial operators, Chambers has traditionally been respected for its commitment to community and interest groups, and members often appear on behalf of small businesses and individuals alike. Much of our work in the public sector comes from local government, but regularly includes instructions from other public bodies whose interests demand protection in the planning process.
