Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas and Trees

With over a half a million buildings now listed, and many more in conservation areas, more and more property disputes involve heritage issues. Trees too regularly cause problems - as between neighbours, or in relation to highways, or by inhibiting development - but many are protected.

Many planning applications and appeals involve such matters; there is much litigation in the civil courts; and an increasing number of local authorities are mounting prosecutions in the criminal courts for unauthorised works.

The author of the standard textbooks in this field - Charles Mynors - is a member of Chambers; and he and many other members are regularly instructed to give advice or to appear as advocate in this field - on behalf of English Heritage, local authorities, property owners, developers and amenity groups.
