HARBOUR ORDERS AND THE EXTENT OF THE POWER TO GIVE GENERAL AND SPECIAL DIRECTIONS
The Marine Management Organisation has recently agreed to the making of an order, under the Harbours Act 1964, materially to extend the power in the case of Yarmouth (Isle of Wight) to make general and special directions in respect of the harbour. This aspect of the order is perhaps of interest to harbours generally within the jurisdiction. The Yarmouth order also includes powers for a licensing scheme for water-taxis and enhanced powers in respect of the harbour authorities environmental functions.
The order was promoted by Andrew Newcombe QC, instructed by Winckworth Sherwood.
