FTB MEMBERS APPOINTED AS ASSISTANT COMMISSIONERS TO THE BOUNDARY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND

FTB is delighted to announce that the Secretary of State has appointed Guy Roots QC, Craig Howell Williams QC and Douglas Edwards QC as Assistant Commissioners to the Boundary Commission for England.

Guy Roots QC has been appointed for the  London Region, Craig Howell Williams QC will be the Lead Assistant Commissioner for the West Midlands region and Douglas Edwards QC will be the Lead Assistant Commissioner for the East Midlands region.

Their roles will be to assist the Commission in the discharge of its function, including to chair public hearings, analyse representations and report to the Commission recommending any revisions to its proposals for a review of constituency boundaries in England. The Boundary Commission for England has commenced work on its current review, following the establishment of new statutory provisions introduced by the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Act 2011 (amending the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986) which necessitate a significant reduction in the number of constituencies in England and require constituencies to comply with new parameters so far as the number of electors in each constituency is concerned. The Commission is due to report to Parliament by 1 October 2013.

The roles will be part time and will not limit availability to accept instructions on other matters.
