BOYDELL LECTURE 2011

The fourth annual Boydell Lecture was delivered on 20th July by Sir Simon Jenkins, Chairman of the National Trust.  The lecture, held at Inner Temple Hall, was titled ‘Trust for the Future: The Role of the National Trust and the Voluntary Sector in the Planning System.'

The main focus of Sir Simon's presentation was the National Trust's fundamental aim of preserving areas of historic interest or beauty, and the challenges they are facing under the Government's new planning proposals, such as the Localism Bill and the National Planning Policy.  It was widely regarded by those in attendance to be an insightful look at new planning schemes and also a strong critique of the Government's ‘sloppy language and sloppy legislating' that appears to favour development over conservation.
