BLACKPOOL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT QUASHES PLANNING PERMISSION FOR RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

On 10 October 2011 the high court in Manchester quashed a planning permission granted by Fylde Borough Council for 275 dwellings and associated infrastructure on part of the site of the former Pontins holidays camp at Lytham St Anne's.  The site is close to the airfield of Blackpool International Airport. The Council conceded to judgment on five separate grounds of review including failure to act in accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Safeguarded Aerodromes, Technical Sites and Military Explosives Storage Areas) Direction 2002.

Gregory Jones QC (Instructed by Mitchmores) acted for Blackpool International Airport.
