CHAMBERS IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT ANDREW NEWCOMBE AND DOUGLAS EDWARDS HAVE BEEN AWARDED SILK
Francis Taylor Building is delighted that two of its members have been selected to take silk.
Andrew Newcombe has been regarded as one of the leading juniors in the fields of planning and infrastructure. His work includes large infrastructure schemes (eg railways, harbours and renewables), various major housing and other planning proposals and associated areas, including Lands Tribunal work. He also regularly advises on the more general aspects of the law relating to matters such as harbours, railways and compulsory acquisition.
In addition to his planning work, he has been involved in Parliamentary practice, including promoting and opposing private and hybrid Bills (both for powers and for works) and advising extensively on private Acts etc. He participated in the Thames Safety Inquiry and the Marchioness Formal Investigation and has appeared at various inquiries in Scotland on large planning proposals.
He is also well known for his wind farm schemes and transport and works orders expertise.
Douglas Edwards is particularly well known for his planning and environmental practice as well as being one of the leading juniors in the complex and specialist field of village green law; his practice also includes administrative, local government and highway law. He appears regularly both for appellants and local planning and other authorities at inquiries and in the courts. His planning inquiry practice has engaged a wide range of issues over the last year including major retail and leisure schemes and housing development as well as waste proposals, tall buildings and transport infrastructure. Douglas has a busy practice in the field of environmental law. He advises and appears regularly in statutory nuisance appeals and prosecutions for both local authorities and commercial operators and in litigation concerning the waster industry. He has appeared over the last year in several large private nuisance claims particularly in respect of agricultural operations.
