CONTROVERSIAL VILLAGE GREEN APPLICATION REJECTED

The Planning and Regulation Committee of Oxfordshire County Council on 14th January 2008 rejected an application to register as a village green two of the filled-in gravel pits at Radley Lakes, near Abingdon.  The application had been prompted by the proposal by RWE Npower to use the Lakes to tip fly ash from nearby Didcot Power Station, which was vociferously resisted by local people. The Council arranged for a public local inquiry to be held into the application, which took place over seven days during the spring and summer of 2007. As a result, the inspector recommended, and the Council agreed, that the land
should not be registered.

Philip Petchey acted for the applicant, and Charles Mynors for RWE Npower.
