BROADS AUTHORITY BILL NEARS ROYAL ASSENT

On 11 February 2009 a Select Committee of the House of Lords, following a seven day opposed hearing, allowed the Bill to proceed, notwithstanding petitions from the Association of Norfolk Parish Councils and a number of individual petitioners. The Bill would amend the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Act 1988, and make changes in respect of the constitution, jurisdiction and financial arrangements of the Broads Authority, as well as various changes designed to promote safety and require third-party insurance.

The Broads Authority was represented by Charles George QC, instructed by Winckworth Sherwood, Parliamentary Agents.
